Carcher Carlos Carrasco, a Cleveland Indian, who is initially, is being treated for leukemia.
Carrasco made this revelation to a television channel during a visit to the Dominican Republic, where he was going to a hospital. He remains optimistic about his prognosis – claiming the situation is "under control" – and thinks he'll be starting again this season.
The 32-year-old right-hander felt lethargic for several weeks in May and told CDN 37 that the doctors "saw something different in my blood".
The Indians listed Carrasco on the wounded list on June 5 with an unspecified diagnosed blood disorder, claiming that he "was moving away from baseball activities to explore optimal treatment and recovery options" and that they expected him to come back "at some point this season."
The Indians (48-38), who are 6 1/2 games behind the Minnesota Twins in central AL and are second in the wild card rankings in Saturday's games, have not commented the diagnosis of Carrasco leukemia.
Carrasco has become one of the most stable AL launchers in recent years. He won 17 games last season and was 18-6 in 2017 when he finished fourth in the AL Cy Young Trophy.
He was 4-6 with a 4.98 ERA in 12 starts this season before being on the injured list.
Carrasco, who signed a $ 47 million four-year deal in December, has 83-68 losses in 219 appearances (183 starts) in ten seasons, all with the Indians.
