During the recent Q & A session with Nintendo shareholders, President Shuntaro Furukawa explained how the Japanese company wanted to keep Switch sales momentum going for a long time.
We want the Nintendo Switch business to continue for as long as possible. To this end, we will not be launching a steady stream of exciting titles, but we will also work to improve our digital content and network services such as Nintendo Switch Online. By continuing to challenge the limits of what can be done with Nintendo Switch in a different way from the Wii, we hope to keep sales on a long life cycle.
Furukawa reinforced this idea by referring to hardware sales for life and software sales of previously published titles:
Nintendo Switch sales showed a positive trend in all regions in the previous quarter (fiscal year ended March 2019), with hardware sales of 16.95 million units and software of 118.55 million of copies, exceeding the published results for the month of March 2018. the release of many new titles that have achieved great success, including Super Mario Party in October, Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! / Let's Go, Eevee! in November and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in December. Combined with continued sales of previously published titles such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Odyssey, these titles have all contributed to stable hardware sales. In fact, the pace of growth of the Nintendo Switch installed base is accelerating and business is going well. With the planned software lineup that we recently announced at E3 in the US, I think the situation confirms our expectations for growth.
