A forthcoming Fallout 76 patch will bring welcome improvements to the game, including helping new players settle more easily on uncultivated land.

Update 11, scheduled for mid-July, will change the game. Low-level characters will have a more progressive introduction to the mechanics and challenges of the MMO, Bethesda said in a blog post.

Characters below 25 will pay less capital for quick moves, for example. Characters below level 15 will have greater disease resistance. Bethesda also plans to replace a number of early challenge rewards with items that will give newcomers "a better chance of survival".

The developer said he was trying to solve the difficulty of some creatures in some subregions of Ash Heap, Savage Divide and Toxic Valley, the idea being that players encounter fewer enemies with enemies higher level when they leave for the first time the relative safety of the forest. The result of all this is that new players should be easier to find themselves in the wastelands, which is certainly a good thing.

Elsewhere, patch 11 allows raw foods and feeds to last more than 50% before spoiling. The patch also means that food and drinks are no longer in a bad state after a quick trip.

And here's another welcome change: Patch 11 improves the description of the elements. Legendary items display all of their current attributes rather than the first one each time you display them in the trade, sale, or container menus. And finally! – When you view recipes or craft templates in the Inspect, Trade, Vending or Container menus, you now see the description of the item they are creating.

Here is what it looks like:

Among the other well-received quality of life improvements include the ability to activate Stealth Boys when you wear Power Armor, a new Enable Power Armor HUD option that lets you switch between the HUD Power Armor or the standard HUD when you wear Power Armor and, again, finally! – Post-patch bulk unwanted items in your inventory will be protected from the Scrap All Junk option – a change requested by fans since the release of Fallout 76. However, bulk waste will continue to be automatically scrapped if necessary while you are manufacturing or repairing.

The launch of Fallout 76 was disastrous (it was difficult to avoid in Eurogamer's Fallout 76 review), but Bethesda held on to the game by publishing a series of updates that definitely improved the situation.

The journey of Fallout 76 on the path of redemption continues.
