Since the Toyota Supra was unveiled, it's constantly being compared to the BMW Z4 M40i. It's because under the skin, it's basically the same car. They share the same chassis, the same engine, the same gearbox, the same differential and even the same interior technology. Toyota claims to have fine-tuned everything for its Bavarian brother to feel unique, but that's just public relations jargon, right? Carwow decided to find out.

In this new video, we watch the BMW Z4 M40i and the Toyota Supra battle it out in a series of tests to determine which one is the fastest. The first place was a drag race standing a quarter of a mile. Both cars are equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission, the launch control is identical, both have the same Michelin tires and both are powered. Both cars also produce the same power in Europe; 335 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. The BMW Z4 is a little heavier but only under a hundred pounds. The race should have been very close.

However, the Toyota Supra crushed the BMW Z4 M40i. He took off stronger and continued to move away from the Bimmer to a quarter mile in 12 seconds. To make sure the test was not a driver error, they again lined up the cars for another test. The second time, the Z4 had a better start, but the Supra still took the lead and continued to win until the end of the race. We do not know if it's a weight difference or a powertrain adjustment, but the Supra is quite faster in the real world.

After the drag race at the stop, they performed a rolling drag race and a braking test at 60-0 mph. We will not spoil the rest of the video, you should go watch it, but the results are really interesting. Viewing.
