CNN – MoviePass darkens while processing changes to its application.

The movie theater subscription service allows customers to view certain movies in theaters based on a monthly fee.

"There's never a good time to do that," said General Manager Mitch Lowe. "But to complete the improved version of our app, a version that, in our opinion, will offer a much better experience to our subscribers, it must be done."

The breakdown began Thursday morning. The company did not specify when the service will be reinstated.

In a letter to subscribers, MoviePass also stated that he hoped to "recapitalize" and that he would continue his efforts to reduce costs.

The company stated that it would credit customers on the days concerned and would not introduce new subscribers until the service was down.

MoviePass also stated in his letter that he had been working for several months to make changes to his service and to "make sure it fits our vision of it."
