Tempe agents were asked to leave Starbucks after putting their client "ill at ease"

A group of six Tempe police officers were recently invited by a Starbucks barista.

The incident allegedly took place on July 4, at the location of Scottsdale and McKellips Roads.

According to a statement by the Tempe Officers' Association, the officers paid for their drinks and gathered inside the cafe.

A barista then approached the group and said that they were putting a client "uncomfortably".

The agents were told to leave the client's view or leave.

The officers chose to leave the establishment at that time.

In a statement, the Tempe Officers Association said it knew it was not a national Starbucks policy.

"This treatment of public safety workers could not be more disheartening. While the barista was polite, making such a request was shocking. Unfortunately, such treatment has become too common in 2019.

We know that this is not a national policy at Starbucks Corporate and we look forward to working with them in this important dialogue. "

In response, the Tempe Police Department said that he had been in touch with Starbucks' central office about what had happened.

"We hope that the incident at Starbucks is an isolated incident between a community member and a single employee rather than an entire organization," said a department spokesman. "Starbucks said it was aware of this incident and indicated that this interaction was not in keeping with its values ​​and that it would continue to strengthen its relationship with law enforcement."

A company employee at Starbucks said that he was investigating what had led to the incident and that the company was deeply respectful of the police and the services it was rendering to the community.
