No Man's Sky Dev offers hints for his anthem, Fallout 76 Studios – Game Rant

We can not deny that EA Anthem and Bethesda Fallout 76 are classic examples of polarizing launches. In fact, both games continued to struggle months after their first releases. A developer who is no stranger to this round of hype and disappointment is Sean Murray of Hello Games.

Be part of the team that went through the disappointing launch of No Man's Sky and his rebirth two years later, Murray offered some advice to developers working on games with difficult launches.

Speaking at the Develop conference in Brighton, England, Murray reiterated the importance of the mantra: "Actions speak louder than words". Murray thinks it's the best solution, because talking about the characteristics of a game that's already out is not interesting or, as he says, credible. Since then, a number of games have come out, had a polarizing launch, and this explosive mix of many people who play but also problems. And I can see EA, Microsoft or Bethesda trying to appease players by simply talking to them, but for real or fake, it just does not work.

Even if everyone does not agree with this methodology, Murray and Hello Games have a lot of experience in this area. In an attempt not to disturb those who bought No Man's Sky, the studio has focused more on reversing updates and post-launch content. As such, three months have elapsed without anything being said to the community and another 21 months for the press itself. Although Murray admitted that silence was sometimes difficult, it apparently paid off with the many updates and the important Next update that essentially transformed the game.

I sat so often and wrote the perfect blog that would explain everything about the game's development and the roadmap. But I could see that it had no credibility with our current situation.

Whether or not Bethesda or BioWare adheres to Murray's advice, both Fallout 76 and Anthem seem to be moving in very different directions. After countless controversies and problems, Fallout 76 is a little stabilized through continuous updates, the surprisingly popular mode of Nuclear Winter Battle Royal and an upcoming expansion that adds many features requested by fans, such as NPCs and dialog choices.

Anthem, on the other hand, continues to struggle. Although EA has continued to express its support for the game and the time it needs to become something more than today, there is not much good news for the game. BioWare continues its radio silence and the game had a small presence at EA Play 2019. The often delayed event of Cataclysm was not welcomed by the community following its debut on the test server and reveals that streams and bugs continue to hinder the overall experience.
