(Bloomberg) – According to an internal email, Tesla Inc. is preparing to increase its production of electric vehicles after record shipments in the second quarter.

The company is "gearing up" to increase production at its Fremont, California, auto plant, Tesla chairman Jerome Guillen said in an email to employees. "Although we can not be too specific in this email, I know you will be delighted with future developments."

A copy of the email was seen by Bloomberg. A Tesla spokesperson did not immediately respond to a voice mail or e-mail requesting a comment.

Tesla's second-quarter shipments surpassed Wall Street's estimates, easing concerns over demand for electric cars. Tesla manufactures all of its vehicles at its only auto assembly plant in Fremont, but produces battery packs and drive units at its gigafactory near Reno, Nevada.

Tesla shares fell 31% this year, bringing the company's market value to $ 41 billion.

Guillen's message also indicated that the company had "set new records in all production lines in terms of production and efficiency" in the last quarter, in Fremont and Nevada, and that "quality was also reaching records. "

Tesla has announced its intention to produce "significantly" more than 360,000 to 400,000 vehicles that it is expected to deliver in 2019. Production could reach 500,000 vehicles worldwide this year, though its plant located near Shanghai can reach "volume production" at the beginning of the fourth quarter. quarter, the company said in its most recent quarterly letter to shareholders.

According to Guillen's e-mail, many parts of the assembly line in China are already in place.

"The Stamping, Body, Paint and General Assembly lines in China are well advanced and have set records in line design and manufacturing," the memo says.
