I am a big fan of Wyze's security cameras. I use them for a few months. They are simple, and deliciously cheap. And now, they are getting a little smarter, thanks to a software update that allows them to identify people through artificial intelligence.
This feature is available for the latest models, the Wyze Cam v2 and Wyze Cam Pan home automation cameras, and is enabled through a complementary firmware upgrade.
People detection is optimized by Xnor's computer vision software – a Seattle-based AI computer services provider specializing in peripheral computing.
More importantly, the Wyze Cam performs heavy computing tasks on the device rather than on a cloud-based remote server. This means that it is more resilient to network problems and continues to work even if your ISP fails.
This will also make it a lot more compelling for privacy conscious users, who are uncomfortable letting a third party remotely analyze video footage from home.
Obviously, this new feature makes the Wyze camera much more useful. If someone introduced it to you, you can use this feature to jump directly to footage containing people. This will also reduce the number of accidental notifications sent to the users of the application.
We are big fans of Wyze here. It's very present in our gift guides. We looked at panoramic and static cameras. It's a product that I personally use and have learned to love. The application works fine, the cameras are small and reliable, and they are really cheap.
With this new feature, they are nothing less than a flight. You can recover the Wyze Cam Pan on Amazon for 37.98 USD. Alternatively, Wyze also sells a model with a MicroSD card provided at a price of $ 50.96. The static version is a bit cheaper, priced at $ 25.99 on Amazon with free shipping, or $ 38.97 with a MicroSD card.
Although the price displayed is slightly higher on Amazon than on the Wyze website (where the entry-level model sells for $ 19.99), the latter charges you $ 5.99 for shipping, which which ultimately makes it more uniform.
