CITRUS HEIGHTS, Calif. – A man is dead and a K9 policeman was wounded after a shootout near the Sunrise Mall at Citrus Heights on Tuesday night.

The shooting occurred in an area near the Red Robin Mall and Restaurant, in the 7900 Greenback Way islet.

The police were responding to a "gunshot" call at approximately 7:30 pm Shortly after arriving at the scene, the officers reported seeing a person corresponding to the description of the call who was leaving the scene. # 39; s location. Police said K9, Dax, was taken to a veterinary hospital in an unknown state.

When exchanging gunshots, the police said that a lost bullet had passed through the windshield of a car with at least one person in it. This person was not injured.

All eastbound lanes from Greenback Lane from Sunrise Boulevard were closed while the police were investigating. There is no estimated time to reopen the roadway.
