UPDATE: Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said at a press conference today (August 17) that Tristan Wix sent his text messages on his desire to be part of a mass shootout to his ex-girlfriend. She reported the texts to the forces of order that led to the arrest of Wix. Even though he told MPs that he did not own a firearm, a search of his home resulted in finding a shotgun containing about 400 rounds of ammunition. Wix was in court this morning (August 17) where a judge denied the bail. He remains at Volusia County Jail.

The Daytona Beach Shores Department of Public Safety released a bodycam video of Wix's arrest.

Daytona Beach Shores, FL – A 25-year-old man from Daytona Beach wakes up in the Volusia County Jail today (17 August) after MPs announce that he has sent a threatening SMS to shoot in droves. Tristan Wix was arrested yesterday afternoon (August 16) at the Winn Dixie store parking lot at Daytona Beach Shores.

Members of the Volusia County Sheriff's Office were alerted by text messages in which he detailed his intention to fire as many people as he could in a large crowd. VCSO has released some of the following text messages:

"A school is a weak target, I would be more inclined to open fire on a large crowd of people over 5km, I would like to break a world record for the longest confirmed murder of all time."

"I want to open fire on a large crowd of more than 3 miles before I die and I need an observer (emoji, laughing face crying)"

"What you want to do after the fact is your own business. If you want to plan your escape, we can work on it. But I do not intend to leave alive unless it suits me.

"But a good hundred victims would be good. I already have a place (angry emoji) is this so serious?

"Well even if you tell someone, me saying I want to do it and I think it's not the same thing as actually doing it lol. Hope a little that someone comes into my life who is worth not doing, for the sake of all these people (laughing with tears in their eyes, emoji). I'm not crazy, I just want to die and I want to have fun doing it, but I'm the most patient person in the world. "

During his arrest, Wix told the detectives that he did not own any firearms but was fascinated by mass shootings. The Sheriff's detectives obtained a search warrant against Wix's residence on Botefuhr Avenue in Daytona Beach last night (August 16).

Wix was taken to VCJ and held in custody overnight. He will go to a judge this morning. Come back for updates.
