The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is back in the battered area last Saturday night (August 17, 2019) to hold the UFC 241 from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. At the main event of the evening, Stipe Miocic got a sweet revenge on Daniel Comier, knocking him out in the fourth round to recover his title (highlights here).
Anthony Pettis and Nate Diaz went to war in a thrilling duel for the welterweight, during which Nate did enough to win a unanimous victory over "Showtime" after 15 minutes of action (highlights).
The biggest winner: Stipe Miocic
For a moment, it seemed that Stipe was about to lose his second consecutive fight against "DC", losing on the scorecards of the judges before defeating the heavyweight champion in the fourth round. And all this was possible thanks to the discovery of his privileged position, while softening Cormier by repeated blows on the combat side of the body.
Finally, Stipe cut Cormier with a right hand that shook him, leading to the next punches that earned Miocic his belt. Without his sudden change, the new champion could have been eliminated by a score of 0-2 to "DC", projecting his dream of championship further and further away. But now that he has returned to the top, Stipe can celebrate after taking revenge on the former champion with the right to say that he is the only man to have ever defeated Daniel at Heavyweight.
Runner (s) Up: Paulo Costa and Nate Diaz
With his victory over Yoel Romero, Costa not only had the last word in his war of words, but "Borrachinha" is now preparing well for the title shot against the winner of the upcoming fight between divisional champion, Robert Whittaker, taking on the acting champion, Israel Adesanya. Costa now moves to 13-0, 5-0 UFC and confirms that he is about to become the face of Brazilian MMA. Costa has all the qualities of a star: he has the look, the power and the skills to make him a legitimate threat inside and outside the Octagon.
After three years of absence, Nate Diaz proved that he had not lost a stage, smothering Anthony Pettis with an unrelenting attack that, at times, did not seem to have a significant impact. But what you see from the outside is not the same as what's really happening, because Nate carries you with non-stop punches and pressure that ends up having a negative impact on your opponents.
And that's what happened to Pettis: Stockton's striker put him on "Showtime" while making some of his best moves en route to a clear win. After calling Jorge Masvidal after his victory, it seems that this is the fight to do next. And I do not think anybody will complain too much about it. Sorry, Conor McGregor.
The Biggest Loser: Jodie Esquibel
Yes, Daniel Cormier, Anthony Pettis and Yoel Romero have all failed, but these are fierce battles and every man will stay to fight another day. Jodie, meanwhile, has abandoned her first four fights inside the Octagon since her debut in 2017. That's not because she's not the one Bigger name that she does not lose big because it could mark the end of her life. The UFC career has failed to capture the "W" inside the Octagon.
