Houston, Texas – Police said seven people were shot dead after a fight at a party held east of Houston early Saturday morning. The incident occurred around 1:45 am at an "instant house party" that formed after its promotion on Snapchat.

"It was just a random group of people who were receiving an invitation (on the app)," said CBS Houston affiliate detective Sean Ragsdale of KHOU.

Ragsdale said there were between 30 and 50 people at the party, including teenagers and adults.

The Houston Police Department said several people had quarreled and several people had started shooting at each other. Police said three people were shot dead at home where teenagers and adults attended the party.

According to the police, a car coming out of the house was followed by another group in a van. Police said that the group in the van fired at the car and that three other people were beaten.

While the investigation was continuing, the police learned that another person was in the hospital after being shot in the hand, bringing to seven the number of people shot, according to KHOU.

The seven victims had life-threatening injuries.
