Every year in September, Apple organizes an event to announce the next iPhone. And with the iPhone 11 (or what we'll call it) approaching, it's time for Apple to step up its efforts. IPhone sales fell 12% in the third fiscal quarter, more people are trade their iPhones for Androidsand competitors such as Samsung's Note 10 and 10 Plus offer compelling features. The iPhone does not need a radical overhaul, but for Apple to actually succeed at the next, it will require at least seven upgrades and updated features if it wants to stay competitive in this sector of telephony increasingly congested.
Better battery life
The iPhone XS has dramatically improved the life of the battery on the iPhone X and the larger iPhone XS Max lasted 17 hours and 23 minutes in our loop-mode video tests in airplane mode. Although this is a difficult time, phones like the Galaxy S10 Plus and the Huawei P30 Pro last 21 and 23 hours respectively. Compared to the best phones with the best battery life, there is still a lot to do for the iPhone.
Fortunately, iOS 13 should allow downloading and launching applications, including FaceID, faster and more efficiently. But Dark Mode could help too. When displaying black screens and menu pages, an OLED display consumes less power, which can, in turn, help prevent the battery from discharging too quickly.
The next processor, probably called A13, could also help improve battery life, especially if, as expected, it is more efficient than the A12 processor of last year. But what I want to see in Apple's speech in 2019 is that Phil Schiller, marketing manager for Apple, presents a slide for the iPhone 11 that reads: "Battery 30% longer" .
Dad needs a new screen
There is absolutely nothing wrong with what the OLED displays on the iPhone X, XS and XS Max. But with Samsung HDR10 + screens On the Galaxy S10, S10 Plus, Note 10 and 10 Plus, and the OnePlus 7 Pro with its high refresh rate, Apple needs to step up its business.
This could be as simple as improving the brightness and color range on the next screen of the iPhone. Better still, Apple could bring Pro Motion on the iPhone. Pro Motion is Apple's brand for its high refresh rate display in its iPad Pro range. The screen refreshes 1.5 to 2 times faster than a regular phone or tablet screen. The result is that everything looks cleaner and the animations are smoother. If the rumors are accurate, there may be an iPhone Pro. And maybe the word "Pro" means "Pro Motion Display".
Includes a quick charge cable and a power block
Since the release of the iPhone 8, 8 Plus and X, you can quickly charge the battery to recharge faster. But for that, you need to buy a $ 19 USB-C to Lighting cable and an 18-watt $ 29 charger. It would be an easy win for Apple to simply include these items in the box at no additional cost. As many people already own the old USB-A cable to Lighting and the 5-watt charger. Seriously, we are already paying $ 999 for a phone.
Add a better selfie camera or two
Sometimes, we feel that selfie cameras on phones are an afterthought. The one on the iPhone XR, XS and XS Max is ok, but could be a lot better. The new iPhone requires a superior resolution front camera that would enhance the details and quality of the image. And please bring a selfie video capture up to a 4K resolution. I know some people do not want to see all the imperfections with so much detail, in which case they could still record at a lower resolution.
It would also be wise that, instead of having a fixed focus front camera, to have a selfie camera with autofocus like that of the Galaxy S10. This would never be vague. But the ultimate improvement would be the addition of a second wide-angle camera, like those of the Pixel 3 and the LG G8. Imagine having two cameras on FaceTime with ?! Basically, the front camera of the iPhone must be of superior quality to that of the back.
Upgrading rear cameras and image processing
Since the iPhone 4, Apple has always had a solid camera system on the back of its phones. But in recent years, phones such as the Huawei P30 Pro and the Pixel 3 have exceeded the photographic capabilities of the iPhone, especially in low light. According to rumors, the iPhone 11 will feature three rear cameras, but it is hoped that all new cameras will have larger sensors with larger pixels to absorb more light.
Apple needs to add some kind of "Night Mode" similar to those of the Huawei and Pixel models, which take multiple pictures and merge them to improve the quality and the exposure of the image. Of course, one of my favorite things about camera effects, like Portrait Lighting on an iPhone, is the ability to see a preview of the effect before taking a picture. Maybe Apple's night mode would work more like its Pano mode where you see the photo built as it is captured and processed.
And speaking of new modes, if the iPhone 11 has three rear cameras, I would be curious to see the kind of things Apple decides to do. LG has a triple hit mode on his V50 phone who can take a picture with each of his three rear cameras simultaneously with only one shutter. There are rumors that Apple's triple camera will be able to correct framing errors. For example, if you accidentally cut the frame, the iPhone can use the data entered with the ultra-wide camera to "fix" the missing person.
Then there is the video. Currently, the iPhone is recording the best video of all phones and yet, it would be good to see Apple go further. This could be to add a portrait mode to the video like the LG V50 and the Galaxy Note 10 which are pretty much a mess, or even add something ridiculous and video centered like a dolly Alfred Hitchcock zoom effect.
Finally, with regard to photos and videos, the Smart HDR in its current form on the iPhone XS is very heavy, especially because it pushes the temperature and color saturation in places really artificial. The next iPhone needs a more balanced HDR Smart.
& # 39; A13 efficient & # 39;
One thing that is often taken for granted is the huge progress made by Apple in terms of processing power for the iPhone, year after year. If there were rewards for the most valuable part of the iPhone, I would give it to the A series processors.
This year again, Apple must offer a processor not only more powerful than the A12 Bionic, but also more efficient. The processor of the iPhone XS A12 Bionic already has a few generations ahead of those of the latest Android phones, but any way to make the iPhone 11 more efficient will greatly help to improve the life time drums. Everything revolves around this battery. In addition, A13 Efficient sounds good (OK, in fact, this is not the case).
The iPhone needs a better name
Apple simultaneously offered the coolest name for a phone and the worst when it took out the iPhone X – pronounced "ten" and not "ex". Yes, Roman numerals do not really work for the iPhone. It's confusing and it makes me think of the Super Bowl or a preview that I write for a terminology job.
I hope Apple will come back to something more simple. Maybe just call the new phone: iPhone. And if there is a more powerful version, call it iPhone Pro. Let's stop this case of Roman numerals.
