The small-league team from east-center Maui, from Wailuku, defeated Elizabeth, NJ today with a 6-0 win, qualifying for the second time in this week's World Series. in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
The match started on Saturday, but was canceled due to lightning and rain at the end of the 4th inning, with Central East Maui 6-0. The Maui team retained that lead when the match resumed at 7:00 am EST today.
The Maui team entered the South East Region team, South Riding, Va., In a match on Wednesday, August 21st. The team from the Southeast region is also undefeated so far in the tournament with two victories to their credit.
The winner of Wednesday's match will compete in Saturday's American final; the winner of the US final securing a place in the World Series title game on Sunday, August 26
At the international level, South Korea's KOR South Chungcheong region will face the Japanese city of Chofu in a match to be held on Wednesday at 6:30 am (HST or 12:30 on ABC).
The double elimination tournament brings together 16 teams from around the world. The age limit this year means that there are no teenagers on the list, but only the 11 and 12 year olds who play for the tournament title.
Wailuku Maui's team qualified for the Little League series after winning the West Regional title on August 10 in San Bernardino, California.
The 2019 World Series Little League will continue until August 26 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
