Apple's spending plans (NASDAQ: AAPL) for its streaming service have exceeded initial assumptions, the Financial Times reports, indicating that the company has now committed more than $ 6 billion for original shows and films.
The tech giant had originally set a threshold of $ 1 billion – but each week brings more and more information on the fierce competition in the streaming war that does not just come from Netflix, Amazon.com ( NASDAQ: AMZN) and Hulu but also WarnerMedia (NYSE: T), Comcast (NASDAQ: CMCSA) and Disney (NYSE: DIS).
A big Apple show (The morning show, with Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carell) has already spent hundreds of millions of dollars; a higher price per episode than expensive HBO Game of thrones, the FT said.
Apple's overall budget is still lower than Netflix's (NASDAQ: NFLX) $ 15 billion budget, but huge spend per issue (and faster payment) helps it find talent for contracts.
According to the report, Apple's TV Plus is expected to be operational within two months, on the occasion of the opening of Disney Plus in November.
