The developer of the famous retro shooter Ion Fury apologized for what he described as "sexist and transphobic" commented by two of his employees on Discord. He also promised to correct several "homophobic" jokes included in the game itself.

Ion Fury, which was released on August 15, was widely welcomed with gushing praise. He wears less influence on his sleeve than he treats them as an integral tattoo. It's undeniably a shooter in the vein of chunky's # 90 cheesefests like Duc Nukem 3D and Warrior of the shadow. It uses the same engine and even has the same editor, 3D Realms. It also relies on similar humorous sensitivities, some of which, to say the least, have not aged well.

Late last week, a ResetEra game forum user released screenshots of Discord with messages from members of Ion FuryThe Voidpoint development studio. These included the remarks of a chief developer who misses out on "Terminx" on how "SJW" are "fucking crazy".

"Something I do not really understand when it comes to social justice, is that they have things like the 'slut walk', which I thought was the right not to be harassed for the way they dress, but if you represent women dressed in the same way we're fed up, "Terminx wrote in a discussion with other members of the Discord channel.

Ion Fury stars a woman character, but Terminx was keen to note that it contained "no feminist inclination."

Another developer, Daedolon, expressed the same skepticism towards trans people, suggesting that "mutilating a perfectly healthy body while you suffer from depression and other serious problems" could lead to suicide.

Initially, Voidpoint stated that these comments had been taken out of context. "You should probably do your own research before coming to this conclusion," the studio wrote on Twitter In response to a fan who expressed regret for buying the game after reading the developer's "disappointing" comments. "The cropping tool in Photoshop has always been so much focused on what you delete as on what you keep."

Over the weekend, another ResetEra user discovered a homophobic language in Ion Fury, including soap bottles that have parodied the Olay shampoo mark as "OGAY" and a secret area in which you can find the word "fagbag".

This brought Voidpoint and the Realms 3D publisher to issue statements for the purpose of Eurogamer. (Kotaku Voidpoint stated that the team members made "sexist and transphobic comments, and included homophobic language in Ion Fury, Declaring these actions "insensitive, unacceptable and counterproductive to the causes of equality". The company apologizes to women and members of the LGBTQ community and says it will implement "a zero-tolerance policy for this type of language," which will include: "Mandatory sensitivity training" for employees . The language in question will also be patched on Ion FuryIt said. Finally, Voidpoint plans to donate $ 10,000 Ion FuryIncome from the Trevor Project, a non-profit organization focused on the prevention of LGBTQ youth suicide.

The 3D Realms editor noted that the language at play in question had not been approved by us and that he hoped that this sort of thing would not happen again.

"The future of all 3D Realms contracts will include conditions that allow us to sever relationships if an entrepreneur violates our zero tolerance policy on hate speech," he writes.
