Intel Corp. Tuesday unveiled the details of a new chip based on artificial intelligence that allows computers to acquire knowledge by inference, that is to say to draw conclusions based on evidence and reasoning. The technology was created by the laboratory of the technology giant, Haifa.
Called Intel Nervana NNP-I or Spring Hill, this chip is designed for large computing centers, Intel said in a statement. Intel introduced the product for the first time on Tuesday at the Hot Chips conference in Silicon Valley, an annual technology symposium.
The social media giant Facebook is already using the product, the statement said.

Artificial intelligence – the area in which computers have the ability to learn – has existed since the 1950s. It is now enjoying a rebirth made possible by the higher computing power of chips. The market is expected to represent a $ 191 billion market by 2025, according to MarketsandMarkets, a research firm.
Companies such as Intel, Nvidia, Qualcomm and Google, as well as startups from around the world, are all looking for new technologies in this field, which includes the creation of the hardware needed to handle large quantities. d & # 39; information.
This processing equipment is used for two purposes: to train computers to perform new tasks and to teach them how to derive and thereby gain valuable information.
Intel's new chip, a hardware accelerator card, is designed to handle high workloads and complex artificial intelligence tasks in the field of inference, the statement said.
The chip is based on an Intel Core 10 inch Ice Lake processor and consumes little energy, even for dealing with high workloads. The chip can process up to 3600 frames per second with a power of 10 watts, the statement said.
"To achieve a future state of" artificial intelligence everywhere, "we will need to take care of overwriting the generated data and ensure that companies have the opportunity to use their data effectively, in part. treating them where they are collected when it makes sense and making them smarter. the use of their upstream resources, "said Naveen Rao, vice president and general manager of Intel, the Artificial Intelligence product group, in a statement.
Datacenters and the cloud must have access to high-performance computing and "specialized acceleration for complex AI applications," he said. "In this future vision of AI around the world, a holistic approach is needed – from hardware to software to applications.
The new chip will give a boost to existing Intel Xeon processors, already used by large companies, the statement said. Intel Xeon processors are used by companies to perform complex computing tasks.
Intel has invested in several Israeli startups developing artificial intelligence technologies, including Habana Labs and NeuroBlade. This chip was developed internally, however, at the Intel Research and Development Center in Haifa, in collaboration with the Israeli startup C2DG, which is also developing Intel processor cores.
In addition to its manufacturing facility in Kiryat Gat in the northern Negev, Intel has research and development centers in Jerusalem, Petah Tikva and Haifa.
