The main current supplier of OLED screens for iPhone is Samsung, followed by far by LG Display. Apple would look to diversify its supply chain of display components for the 2020 iPhone range.
Apple has been working with BOE to provide display screens for the MacBook and iPad since 2017. Expanding their business relationships is therefore hardly surprising. According to internal sources, Apple is aggressively testing BOE's flexible OLED screens for next year's iPhone models. The range of iPhone 2020 is expected to switch permanently to the OLED, including the budget model.
Nikkei Asian Review has proven itself in leakages in Apple's supply chain, and its latest report is consistent with earlier rumors that Apple was considering switching entirely to OLED technology for its smartphones.
