PResident Trump spoke of the trade war with China, saying he was the right person to fight.
"I am elected," the president told reporters Wednesday after stating, "Someone had to do it."
Trump has made China one of the main arguments in the 2016 election and has since threatened the country with tariffs for what he described as unfair trade practices.
The Chinese president's trade advisers have convinced him to delay some of the planned trade tariffs on China so as not to "ruin Christmas".
JPMorgan estimated that rates could cost up to $ 1,000 per year to US households. China has threatened to retaliate against US tariffs.
Trump tweeted on Wednesday that his administration was to "play well with China and other trade agreements."
