TechCrunch reported earlier this month that a hacker had stolen 6.8 million user records at StockX in May. The thief then sold the data on the dark canvas. Stolen information includes names, email addresses, and hashed passwords. Although StockX sent password reset requests to those affected by the breach, it did not disclose what had happened or the fact that their personal information had been endangered.
StockX addressed the violation in a message to customers on its website. He also clarified that the credit card numbers or any financial information had not been stolen.
According to the filing, the stolen data caused "irreparable harm" to the well-being of the plaintiff. "The plaintiff and the group have been damaged and the group has spent time and will spend more time in the future to speak with representatives, search and monitor accounts, research and monitor credit history, respond to incidents of identity theft, buy identity protection and suffering, interference and inconvenience resulting from the data breach. "
The lawsuit seeks damages and a jury trial. Engadget has contacted StockX for comments and will be updated as soon as we have new answers.
