Dell has announced a refresh of its XPS 13 laptop before IFA 2019 and each configuration will be built with the new Comet Lake 10th generation Intel U Series processors. The most affordable model starts at $ 899 and includes the Intel Core i3-10110U processor. Dell will offer a high-end model with the Intel Core i7-10710U hexacore processor starting in October.
All XPS 13 configurations use dual-channel LPDDR3 SDRAM, which is slightly disappointing as Intel's new 10th generation processors support faster LPDDR4x RAM. Having said that, having a more powerful and efficient processor in the best laptop you can buy is a good thing. If you are in the market for the XPS 13, I recommend you wait until at least next week.
Dell also notes that its XPS 13 2 in 1 is now available. This is the first laptop certified by the Athena project, guaranteeing a battery life of nine hours, thanks to the Intel Ice Lake 10th Gen processors.
These announcements concern Intel as much as Dell. Several other Dell Inspiron and Vostro series laptops will soon be shipped with 10th generation processors. But the Inspiron 14 7000 and Inspiron 7000 13-inch 13-inch 2-in-1 notebooks, shipped Oct. 1 from $ 929.99 and $ 849 respectively.
Both machines have 10th generation Comet Lake processors and are similar at first, but there are some major differences. The 2-in-1 will be delivered in 13-inch, 15-inch, and 17-inch configurations, with the latter two sizing options featuring DDR4 RAM and configurable with Nvidia GeForce MX250 graphics. However, if you want one that has thinner packages and a USB-C charge instead of relying on the exclusive 4.5mm charger, the Inspiron 14 7000 could be a better choice for you.
