Unless something serious happens, the Los Angeles Chargers will not have halfback Melvin Gordon for the first week. should stretch in the regular season, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Gordon, 26, did not show up at the camp to try to get a long-term contract. Gordon enters the last year of his current contract. It should arrive on the market after the season.
While both parties reportedly spoke of an agreement, Gordon and the Chargers are "millions apart in the negotiations".
Gordon should train in Florida during his absence from the team.
In four seasons, Gordon has accumulated 3,638 rushing yards and 28 touchdowns with the Chargers. He was also good as a catcher, catching 182 balls for 1,577 yards and 10 scores. Gordon has done the Pro Bowl twice in his career.
If Gordon runs out of time in the regular season, the Chargers should use Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson as lead riders.
