Last Friday, Microsoft rolled out a new, action-rich release for Windows 10 insiders on the fast ring, which included updates to Task Manager, virtual desktops, optional features in Settings, Block notes, account profiles and Windows Search.

Today, the software giant publishes Build 18965 with a major new change.

The great addition of this version is the control on the restart of the applications during the connection. When you restart Windows or log off and log back in, the operating system can reload the applications that you had open at that time.

This new setting is disabled by default, but you can enable it by selecting Settings> Accounts> Connection Options or by searching for "Restart Applications" in Start or in the search field.

In addition, the comments hub gets an update of the search user interface and you can now add similar comments. The Windows Insider Achievements page has also been revamped.

Other changes, enhancements, and fixes to this release include:

  • Fixed a problem that caused unexpected display of screens when updating Windows, indicating "managed by your organization" for some insiders.
  • Fixed a problem that sometimes resulted in unexpected hiding of the taskbar when launching the touch keyboard.
  • Issue resolved: Some colors were not correct in the language settings if you used high contrast white.
  • Fixed a problem that could prevent background tasks from running in some applications.
  • Issue resolved: If you set the focus to the notification area of the taskbar via WIN + B, open a drop-down menu, and press Esc to close it, the focus rectangle will no longer display correctly.
  • Issue resolved: On the Bluetooth Settings and Others page, the device type was not read aloud when using a screen reader.
  • Resolution of a problem that makes the help links inaccessible when adding a new wireless display device to the Bluetooth & Other settings page if setting Text scale was set to 200%.

The known issues in this release are:

  • Insiders may notice a new "Download in the cloud" option in Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) under "Reset this PC". This feature does not work yet.
  • There was a problem with old versions of the anti-cheat software used with games: after updating to the latest versions of 19H1 Insider Preview, PCs could crash. To minimize the chances of experiencing this problem, please make sure that you are using the latest version of your games before attempting to update the operating system.
  • Some Realtek SD card readers do not work properly.
  • Microsoft is working on a fix for a problem that causes buttons to shrink, zoom, and close the title bar that do not work for some applications. If you are using an impacted application, Alt + F4 should work as expected to close the application if necessary.
  • Some WSL distributions will not be loaded (number 4371).
  • Microsoft is investigating information that DWM uses unexpected system resources for some insiders.
  • A problem affecting a small number of insiders having started on the previous flight, resulting in a crash of lsass.exe and a message stating that "Windows has encountered a problem and needs to be restarted".
