Koepka ready to pay Thomas after a "stupid bet"

Brooks Koepka is ready to pay Justin Thomas after the Tour Championship as he ponders the "stupid gamble" he has made with his American compatriot.

Thomas will take a two-run lead over the final of the season, which begins in East Lake on Thursday, with three kicks from Koepka adrift.

But it seems that Thomas is pretty sure to have at least a victory over Koepka after both men have bet on most holes, the winner of the 2017 US PGA Championship stretching his lead in the BMW championship.

Koepka said it was a stupid bet to place and he is willing to pay Thomas on Sunday.

"We were in Korea, we were playing together and we were discussing the fact that, throughout the year, we would have little action on the number of times we miss", he said at a press conference Wednesday.

"I do not even remember the last time I played, I have zero … I did not get away much, so it was a stupid bet on my part."

Koepka added, "I will pay Sunday."

Even if he risks losing that, Koepka still has a chance to participate in the FedEx Cup despite the new format of the Tour Championship, which allows him to start with a deficit of three strokes.

The four-time major champion does not change his approach as he is aiming for his first FedEx Cup title.

"It's another golf tournament, go out and try to win it, and that's what you do every time you win," Koepka said.

"Take a week at a time, follow the process and see where it will take you in. Obviously, I have a good chance here, being third in the FedEx Cup, and having a chance to win it.

"It's important, but I'm just going out and playing good golf this week."
