We are less than two weeks away from the Bojangles Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway (September 1st on NBCSN), which will mark the fifth year of NASCAR's official Throwback weekend.
Here's your guide to retro painting projects announced up until now for the weekend, including those of the Xfinity Series race on August 31st.
Brad Keselowski, Ford # 2 – The Penske Team driver will participate in the 1996 Rusty Wallace Cup series.
Austin Dillon, Chevrolet # 3 – Dillon will claim a painting scheme that was led by his grandfather and team owner, Richard Childress, in the late 1970s.
Ryan Newman, Ford # 6 – Oscar Mayer taking the place of Valvoline, Newman's car will be inspired by the pattern that Mark Martin ran in 1993, during Roush Fenway Racing's first win in the Southern 500.
Daniel Hemric, Chevrolet # 8 – Hemric will drive a car inspired by the design of CAT equipment and the logo used since their launch in 1925 until 1931.
Chase Elliott, Chevrolet # 9 – Elliott will boast of the stratagem his father, Bill Elliott, won his first Cup pole in 1981 in Darlington.
Denny Hamlin, Toyota # 11 – Hamlin's car will evoke Darrell Waltrip's Western Auto paint scheme from the 1990s.
Ryan Blaney, Ford # 12 – Team Penske's driver will benefit from a program inspired by Michael Waltrip's Pennzoil car from 1991 to 1995.
Martin Truex Jr., Toyota # 19 – The Joe Gibbs Racing rider will pull himself together with the Bass Pro Shops paint scheme that he drove during his Xfinity Series 2004 championship campaign. That year, he flew for Chance 2 Motorsports from Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Erik Jones, Toyota No. 20 – To mark the start of his 100th series in the Coupe, Jones will propose a scheme based on his novice car.
Paul Ménard, Ford No. 21 – Wood Brothers Racing will pay tribute to the team's late founder, Glen Wood, with Wood's painting scheme in 1957, including his one appearance as a pilot at Darlington.
William Byron, Chevrolet # 24 – Byron will pilot one of Cole Trickle's painting themes from Tom Cruise's 1990 film "Days of Thunder".
Corey LaJoie, Ford # 32 – The GoFas Racing car will be based on the Xfinity car sponsored by Dale Jarrett 1990-91 and Nestlé Crunch.
Michael McDowell, Ford # 34 – The Front Row Motorsports driver will have a paint program that pays tribute to the career of its longtime owner and pilot, Jimmy Means, who was previously associated with the owner of FRM , Bob Jenkins.
David Ragan, Ford No. 38 – The Front Row Motorsports driver will lead a program inspired by David Pearson's championship car in 1969.
Bubba Wallace, Chevrolet # 43 – Wallace's car will be a tribute to the late Adam Petty and his 1998 victory at the Arca at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Ryan Preece, Chevrolet # 47 – Preece will pay tribute to racing legend Ron Bouchard. The project is based on the No. 47 Majik Market / Hawaiian Punch car that Bouchard had driven in 1984 at Daytona International Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway.
Alex Bowman, Chevrolet # 88 – The Axmana sponsored car by Bowman is inspired by Tim Richmond's Folger's Coffee program from 1986 to 1987.
Stewart-Haas Racing – On the occasion of the election of co-owner Tony Stewart to the NASCAR Hall of Fame, three SHR drivers will benefit from a paint program based on the cars Stewart drove to win his three titles in the series. Chopped off. The No. 10 Ford of Aric Almirola will be based on the 2002 Stewart car, the No. 41 Daniel Suarez will be based on the 2005 season and the No. 14 Ford of Clint Bowyer will look like the car that Stewart will lead to his 2011 Title.
Xfinity Series
Michael Annett, Chevrolet # 1 – The JR Motorsports driver will channel Jeff Gordon during the 1992 Xfinity Series season with the Gordon's Baby Ruth painting pattern while racing for Bill Davis Racing.
BJ McLeod, Chevrolet # 4 – McLeod's car is designed after the # 44 Slim Jim car, Bobby Labonte, driven in Xfinity Series in 1992.
Justin Allgaier, Chevrolet # 7 – The Allgaier program will be based on the No. 90 Chevrolet Truxmore Chevrolet, Ricky Rudd, driven in 1979.
Dale Earnhardt Jr., Chevrolet # 8 – Earnhardt will drive the program, his father, Dale Earnhardt Sr., made his first World Cup start in 1975 at the World 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Justin Haley, Chevrolet # 11 – Kaulig Racing will boast of the Jeff Burton Rookie Cup paint program in 1994 with the corresponding sponsorship from the Raybestos Brake Parts Company. It also serves as a tribute to Matt Kaulig's father, the team's owner, and CFO of that team, Bob Kaulig, who was vice-president of Raybestos from 1985 to 2008.
Denny Hamlin, Toyota # 18 – Hamlin will have a system based on Bill Elliott's Budweiser # 11 car.
Joey Gase, No. 35 Toyota – Gase's retreat is based on the Tabasco painting scheme of 1997, piloted by Todd Bodine.
Jeremy Clements, Chevrolet # 51 – Like William Byron, Clements will be piloting a "Days of Thunder" painting scheme. He will use the Rowdy Burns Exxon # 51 scheme.
Brandon Brown, # 86 Chevrolet – Brown's drawing is inspired by Terry Labonte's 1993 Cornflakes Kellogg scheme.
Chase Briscoe, Ford # 98 – Briscoe will drive a program based on the Ford # 98, Ford Parnelli Jones winning the Indianapolis 500 miles in 1963.
