Pac-12 decides against the kickoff of 9 o'clock this year

The Pac-12 has decided not to kick off at 9am this week, but is open to another attempt, a spokeswoman for the conference said Wednesday.

Andrew Walker, vice president of public affairs for the Pac-12, said schools needed more time to plan their eventual launch slot.

"Our interested schools need more time for discussions with all stakeholders," Walker said. "There is an interest from Fox and some of our schools, but it takes longer to plan properly."

Last month, at the Pac-12 Media Day, Commissioner Larry Scott said that the conference had preliminary discussions on the possibility of playing some league games in this time slot this season. Scott invoked the frustration of fans facing late night's knockout and the Pac-12's exposure to new markets as a reason to consider this change.

Several coaches, including UCLA's Chip Kelly, Kyle Whittingham of Utah and Justin Wilcox of Cal, have all expressed interest in playing an early match when the idea was raised last month.

Several schools have expressed interest in continuing to explore the concept for 2020, according to Walker.
