MINNEAPOLIS – The Twins are already without Byron Buxton and could now do without left field player Eddie Rosario.
Rosario was pulled out of the White Sox's 4-0 defeat by the White Sox on Wednesday afternoon at Target Field due to stiffness in the right thigh. Rosario was retired in the sixth inning after being stranded in the fourth.
"Fortunately, we have the impending day off and we should know more soon," Rocco Baldelli, director of the Twins, told the press. "It was not a serious injury or anything, but we will spend time there, even if it is relatively serious.
Rosario, entered Wednesday by cutting .284 / .308 / .517 with 27 races and 85 RBIs in 107 matches, missed 13 games due to a sprained ankle that he suffered in the end of the month of June.
The Twins will be off Thursday before opening a three-game series against the Detroit Tigers on Friday at Target Field.
CLOSURE & EM EM DOWN
The last time Lucas Giolito faced the Twins on July 25 in Chicago, the White Sox right handed seven points and seven hits in five sets. This included four circuits, including three from Nelson Cruz. The Twins won a 10-3 win and Giolito was found with a memory that he did not want to repeat.
On Wednesday, Giolito looked like another pitcher since he launched a full three-shot game in which he did not play the stick and pulled out 12 against the most powerful major league lineup. This makes Giolito the first pitcher of the White Sox since Gary Peters in 1963 with nine scoreless innings and over 12 strikeouts.
"It's a tough customer and he was up to it," Baldelli said. "He beat the strike zone, but he also has some elite qualities. He made it difficult for us from the start. We could not really get much out of it. He did not bite his foot. He did not stop bringing it to us and today we simply did not have the answer. "
Twins starter Jake Odorizzi allowed four points (three earned) and eight hits in one goal and six strikeouts in five innings, but he resisted the first and third innings and left after throwing 104 shots.
Giolito, who was elected with the AL star team in July with Odorizzi, has only played 11 more throws than Odorizzi in nine innings. In four games since the Twins were bombed, Giolito is 2-1 with a 2.98 ERA and has conceded three home runs.
As for Cruz, he scored twice against Giolito with two strikeouts. It was a day after the designated hitter got a 4 on 5 record with three RBIs and three points in the White Sox's 14-4 victory over the White Sox. It was the only victory of the Twins in the three-game series.
BUXTON TAKE BP
Buxton is expected to take part in the practice of batting on Thursday as he tries to recover from a dislocation of his right shoulder joint on August 1st in Miami.
Between missing time due to concussion-like symptoms in July and shoulder injury when he crashed against a wall, Buxton has only played nine games since July 12th.
Baldelli told the Star Tribune that Buxton could participate in a minor league reeducation mission before returning to the Twins. Buxton took part in baseball activities, according to Baldelli.
