In today's film news, a horror film by Stephen King is in preparation, "Downton Abbey" is recording strong sales and a project about Deborah Sampson, an independence war soldier, is in development.
ADAPTATION OF KING
Stephen King's "The Girl Who Loves Tom Gordon" was screened for Sanibel Films, Vertigo Entertainment and George A. Romero's Origin Story.
Vertigo partners Roy Lee and Jon Berg will produce the film alongside Chris Romero and Ryan Silbert. Andrew Childs will be the executive product.
"The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon," published in 1999, tells the story of a 9-year-old girl who lost her on the Appalachian Trail. While she stumbles through the woods for nine days, she departs more and more from civilization as she tries to return home. The late George Romero had developed the film more than ten years ago.
"I'm delighted that my book is on the screen and that George's company is involved," King said.

ADVANCE TICKETS
Online ticket seller Fandango said "Downton Abbey" had sold more than "Once upon a time in Hollywood" and "Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again ", the first complete day of advance ticket sales.
"In its five years of television, 'Downton Abbey' has attracted an incredible number of global followers," said Erik Davis, editor-in-chief of Fandango. "First-day sales are among the best we've seen for any movie this year. There is no doubt that the fans have missed their favorite characters and are super excited to see the new conspiracies that appeared in the next movie. "
The TV show followed the lives of the Crawley and the servants who worked for them at the turn of the twentieth century. In its six seasons from 2010 to 2015, the series has won 15 Emmy Awards and 69 Emmy nominations, making Downton Abbey the most nominated television show in Emmys history outside of the United States.
Members of the original cast, including Michelle Dockery, Elizabeth McGovern, Maggie Smith and Hugh Bonneville, are back for the film. Imelda Staunton, Geraldine James, Simon Jones, David Haig, Tuppence Middleton, Kate Phillips and Stephen Campbell Moore joined the cast.
PROJECT LAUNCH
Velocity Creatives, based in New York, has announced the production of its first feature film, "Rebel", based on the story of Deborah Sampson, a soldier in the independence war.
In 1782, at the age of 22, Sampson disguised himself as a man, joined the continental army, and fought in the war of independence against the British. She took part in several battles and received honors for her service.
Susan Cameron's "Rebel" screenplay received the best screenplay award for the 2018 Artemis Women In Action Festival.
"The interest in women's stories has grown tremendously in recent years, and I think the timing is right for this story," said Cameron. "It fills a void in our history, where remarkable women are not sufficiently recognized. France has Joan of Arc, America has Deborah Sampson. "
Javier Gonzalez, whose credits include "Swallow" and "This Teacher", produced. Filming must begin in the spring.
