Spotify sued for "billions of Eminem flows"

Eminem's publisher, Eight Mile Style, continues Spotify.

He claims that the streaming music service has not adequately protected the rapper's work.

Eminem has never been properly paid for songs "broadcast on Spotify billions of times," according to the newspapers.

And Spotify, who has not yet responded publicly, has placed the song Lose Yourself in a category of unknown authors, without copyright protection, which Eight Mile Style calls "absurd".

Lose Yourself, recorded and produced by Eminem and its long-time collaborators Jeff Bass and Luis Resto, was the first hip-hop song to win an Academy Award.

Eight Mile Style sues for around 30 million pounds. The maximum damages for each of his statements are 243 songs violated copyright.

"Spotify acted deceitfully claiming to have compulsory licenses and / or other licenses," say the court documents.

The publisher also blames Spotify for not complying with the 2018 Music Modernization Act, an American regulation designed to pay songwriters when their music is streamed.

Under the regulations, the online online broadcast service must make "reasonable efforts" to identify and locate each copyright holder in a work that may be classified as unknown.

The court documents accused the streaming service of not having the necessary infrastructure to ensure that the songs are licensed and the musicians are paid.
