A man was crushed to death by a faulty elevator in a luxury rental building in Manhattan on Thursday morning, authorities and law enforcement officials said.
The incident took place shortly before 8:30 am in the 23-storey building called "Manhattan Promenade", located at 344 3rd Ave. near East 26th Street in Kips Bay.

The other five passengers from the elevator were rescued safely and out of the car from the basement, authorities said.

The posh building of 183 units, built in the late 1990s, has a 24-hour doorman and many apartments have balconies or terraces.
