The trailer reveals new 2D events


Sega of America began broadcasting a video on Tuesday for the Mario & Sonic at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games game for Nintendo Switch. The video reveals that the game will be launched in the Americas on November 5 and in Europe on November 8. The trailer also reveals new 2D retro versions of ten events from the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.


The ten 2D events include:

  • 100m
  • 10m platform (diving)
  • 400m hurdles
  • Gymnastics – Caveau
  • Judo
  • Single Kayak (K-1) 1000m
  • Long jump
  • Marathon
  • Shooting – Trap
  • Volleyball

Sega publishes four games for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. Sega will release Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games: the official game video game for the Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch to Japan and Asia on July 24th. The game will be launching out of Asia for the PS4, Switch, Xbox One and Steam in 2020.

The other two games are Mario & Sonic at the Tokyo Olympics arcade game (launch in 2020) and Sonic at the Olympics for smartphones (launch in 2020).

Sega has developped Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games video games for all Olympic Games events since 2008 except 2018.
