The Apple Watch 5 Series photo may have been shared on Instagram

A photo published on Instagram may have allowed us to take a first look at the Apple Watch Series 5.

The snapshot (which you can see below) was spotted by Slashleaks, which was apparently uploaded by an Instagram user in France. It seems to show what looks like an Apple Watch Series 4 at first glance.

Apparently, what could indicate that there is something new and not the current watch, is a part of the information displayed on the screen of the watch. This shows that the smartwatch is running watchOS 6 and is an LTE model judging by the Orange France network displayed under the software version number.

What's more interesting here is that the model number of the watch is A2157. This is one of a series of new model numbers that appeared in Apple's official documentation filed with the Eurasian Economic Commission earlier this week.

A picture of Apple Watch Series 5 would have been shared on Instagram

We live in a time when images are easily trafficked and this could well be the case here. But if that gives us a glimpse of Apple's new watch, it seems like we can expect a design that does not stray too far from that of Series 4.

This would not be surprising given that the design changes made to Series 4 were the most radical since the initial launch, offering larger displays and larger models.

This so-called 5 Series photo could also suggest that most new features will come from the software department. This would fit perfectly with a report by Bloomberg that says this year's watch will offer more "muted" changes and will focus on the new features introduced in watchOS 6.

The report also referred to assets discovered in the latest version of watchOS 6 suggesting Apple to launch new models of titanium and ceramic watches. If that's correct, this is the first time Apple has launched a smartwatch with a titanium case option.

What an image like this can not show us is if Apple will change the content of the display screen, which would have been reported on a future Apple Watch. Rumors that an Apple Watch with MicroLED display was re-emerging resurfaced last month after we heard about the screen change earlier this year.

Whether or not Apple is looking for something new, it seems like everything can be revealed on September 10th. This is the date when Apple is asked to introduce a host of new materials that may include new Apple watches with which we can play.
