How to update your Oculus quest to the latest firmware

Are you trying to make sure your Oculus Quest incorporates the latest features, fixes, and performance improvements? This guide will explain how to update your quest.

The Oculus Quest uses a modified version of Android. Just like other Android devices, it updates via WiFi. However, there is no option or prompt to update for the user.

Instead, Quest will download the updates automatically when it is connected to WiFi, mains and standby mode (that is, not turned off). For the update, make sure your headset is in standby and connected to WiFi and leave it plugged into the USB Type-C charger.

There is no way to know when an update has been downloaded, so you can simply leave it connected all night long.

To install the update, simply restart the Quest by putting it on your head and holding down the power button until the reboot option appears.

In late July, Facebook released version 7.0 of the software. This resulted in the following changes:

• We have updated the look and feel of the Oculus store.
• You can now use filtering based on price, comfort or genre, to facilitate the search for new applications that might interest you.
• If you are interested in an application but you are not ready to buy, you can save it in your wish list for later.
• We have updated our experience to adjust the fit and improve the accuracy and clarity of your helmet.
• You can now automatically associate your headset from the Oculus mobile app if it is detected nearby.
• Improved tracking when the controllers are close to the helmet and at different angles of the helmet.
• Improved tracking in challenging poses such as throwing motion on hand.
• Reduced re-acquisition time in the event of loss of controller tracking.
• You can now use your two touch controllers at the same time when you interact with different items such as the keyboard, Oculus Store, and Library.
• We've made improvements that make it easy to update and edit your Oculus Avatar.

This week, Facebook is deploying software version 8.0 of the software. This update brings an optional night mode that applies a blue light filter, similar to Night Shift on iOS. This is easier for the eyes, which can make nocturnal RV sessions more feasible. An option has also been added to remove all Guardian data, which will allow the quest to forget all the boundaries created by Guardian.
