MADISON, Wisconsin – Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul announced Thursday that he was joining a coalition to fight illegal automated appeals.

According to a press release from the communications office of the Wisconsin Department of Justice, the bipartisan coalition includes 51 Attorneys General and 12 telephone companies. The agreement will protect phone users from illegal automated calls and simplify the process of prosecuting bad actors.

"The number of automated calls that people receive needs to be drastically reduced," said Attorney General Kaul. "The telephone companies that apply these principles contribute to this effort. I hope that other companies will join them.

The principles address the problem of automated calls through prevention and enforcement.
