The Pac-12 announced that it will make a public statement this football season on some potentially controversial calls for officials as part of the conference's efforts to enhance transparency.

The Pac-12 announced Monday the communication protocol, as well as the new arbitration procedures. Both responded to the recommendations of an external review of the conference arbitration.

The declarations will be issued on:

  • End-of-game calls or calls without impact on the result of the game

  • Appeals with a major error in the mechanics of officials

  • Calls with an error in rule interpretation

  • Other extraordinary circumstances

David Coleman, Vice President of Arbitration at Pac-12, will determine which calls meet the criteria. The conference also released its centralized retransmission manual, specifying that the supervisor of the retransmission managers is the ultimate decision maker for retransmission calls.
