"This new strategic partnership leverages the expertise and market of three very successful companies: Yankee Global Enterprises, one of the world's leading sports brands, Sinclair Broadcast Group, a diversified media company and provider of Local sports and information company, innovative multinational technology company, "said the press release. The three companies will work together to improve the position of the YES network.

Earlier this month, Sinclair purchased 21 regional sports channels from Disney, acquired by acquiring most of 21st Century Fox's entertainment assets in March. The Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice ordered the company to sell regional sports networks. The government's argument was that if Disney did not give up its regional sports networks, it would lead to higher prices for cable sports because of the lack of competition between Disney and Fox.

Disney's YES Network sale, focused on the Yankees games of the regular season, means the company no longer has an interest in regional sports networks. The sale also means that the New York Yankees will once again become the majority owner of the network that broadcasts its games after Rupert Murdoch bought it from the team in 2014. For Amazon, this allows it to show the Yankees' games in his own local territories. Disney, which currently holds 80% of ESPN's capital, will include the sports network in its next set of streaming services.
