Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg made an eagerly awaited appearance at the National Book Festival on Saturday, and she did not lack humor.
"The audience can see that I'm alive … and can not wait to be very good," she told the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC, much to the audience's delight .
Ginsburg, 86, recently completed three weeks of radiation therapy at a hospital in New York City to treat a malignant pancreatic tumor. The Supreme Court said last week that there is no evidence of the persistence of the disease.
At the National Book Festival, Ginsburg talked about her career and what motivates her.
"On the one hand, I love my job," she told the audience. "It's the best and hardest job I've ever had. [It] make me continue.
Instead of focusing on her "aches and pains," Ginsburg said, she focuses "on the work of the court," which allowed her to go through four episodes of cancer.

Ginsburg even shared her marriage tips, claiming that she had received a call from singer Jennifer Lopez to meet her with Alex Rodriguez.
Lopez asked what his secrets were for a happy marriage, Ginsburg said.
"My mother-in-law took me aside and she told me that it was sometimes helpful to be a little deaf," she said.
Congress librarian Carla Hayden introduced Ginsburg. She posted a picture earlier in the day of the thousands waiting to see the justice of the Supreme Court.

On Monday, Ginsburg received an honorary degree in law from the University of Buffalo in New York. It was his first public appearance since the end of a cancer treatment.
Ginsburg is a leader of the liberal wing of the Supreme Court and bears the nickname "Notorious RBG".

Ginsburg is from Brooklyn, NY. She was appointed to the Supreme Court by then President Bill Clinton in 1993.
The next mandate of the Supreme Court begins on October 7.
