The death of a man deported to Iraq, even though he has never lived there, has added to fears of Iraqis in the United States.
Jimmy Aldaoud, born in a refugee camp in Greece, was sent to Baghdad in June, where he stated that he did not understand the language and that he was sleeping on the street. Sixty-three days after his expulsion, he died of medical complications.
In the United States, approximately 1,000 other green card holders with a criminal record are at risk of deportation to Iraq, a country in which the US State Department advises US citizens not to travel because of dangers that lie in wait for them.
The body of Aldoud is expected to arrive in Detroit on Friday.
