LOS ANGELES (AP) – A new ad for Dior's perfume for men, Sauvage, has aroused outrage over its use of Native American culture and symbols.
The French luxury goods company released Friday the trailer of a Native American dancer and promised more details on the perfume Monday. Another article, on Instagram, indicates that the campaign was developed with Native American consultants. But the publicity continued to receive strong criticism for its insensitivity and offensive name.
Wild in French has various meanings, including wild, untouched and wild.
Critics have also decried the involvement of Johnny Depp, who is the famous face of perfume and stars in a movie promoting Wild.
A message sent to Dior looking for comments on the reaction to the ad was not immediately returned.
