Marriott International has announced its intention to eliminate small plastic bottles of shampoo, conditioner and bath gel from its hotels worldwide by December 2020. They will be replaced by larger bottles or wall-mounted dispensers, depending on the hotels.
This decision follows a similar announcement made last month by IHG, which owns the Holiday Inn, Kimpton and other brands. IHG announced that it would eliminate about 200 million small bottles each year by 2021. Denise Naguib, Vice President of Sustainability and Supplier Diversity at Marriott, said the survey generated a positive response from Marriott. Many were relieved because large bottles allowed them to use as much or as little shampoo as they wished.
According to Naguib, most Marriott hotels will eliminate small bottles by July 1, 2020. Luxury brands will have them by the end of 2020.
