The deadline reports that the star of Mary Tyler Moore's showValerie Harper sadly passed away earlier this week. She was 80 years old. Harper is best known for her work as Rhoda Morgenstern in the hit television series CBS.
Harper died after a long battle with cancer. His family first informed KABC-TV reporter George Pennachio that she had remained in a coma before dying. She was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2009. Unfortunately, in 2013, doctors told her that she had been diagnosed with rare brain cancer.
After his work on Mary Tyler Moore's show, Harper would later play in his own success, Rhoda. Harper also appeared on shows such as Office and The simpsons. Some of his film roles include Freebie and beans and Chapter two. She also starred in the 1980s sitcom Valérie, where his character was later killed, and the show was renamed The Hogan family.
Harper won three Emmy Awards for his work on Mary Tyler Moore's show and one as a leader for Rhoda. She is survived by her husband Tony Cacciotti and her daughter Cristina Harper.
