The Chargers' message to Melvin Gordon is simple: play for us or find a team that wants to trade for you, but stop asking us for more money.
That was the message today from Chargers GM Tom Telesco, who told reporters that the Chargers would not be negotiating with Gordon this season.
"With the regular season now over, we have informed Melvin's representatives that the discussions on a contract extension will be postponed until the end of the season. When, or if, Melvin says that he will play as part of his current contract, "said Telesco, via Joe Reedy of the Associated press.
Gordon enters the fifth and final year of his contract and earns $ 5.6 million. He has already cashed large fines for skipping training camp and preseason, and he is losing $ 330,000 a week for every week that he jumps in the regular season. Gordon lacks weight and it looks like Telesco is waiting for him to report, possibly without further agreement.
