Google Maps has always had a very detailed and detailed Street View layer when used on a desktop computer. Not only do you get more information, but it's simply easier to use.
Street View is still in the Android version of the map, but it has always been a little harder to see where it is available because the app does not have a filter layer to see exactly where Street View works. The latest Google Maps update on mobile seems to fill this gap.
You will now be able to use the action button to filter the location of Street View in Google Maps. This filter highlights the applicable areas in blue. You can exploit them and display them in a street view to see the surrounding areas. It's obvious that Google will have had to take pictures and pictures of the street or the place where you are looking, but Google Maps is pretty elaborate at this point, so it should still cover your favorite local spots.
The latest update for Android seems to have deployed this new feature quite widely, but iOS has not seen it yet. Expect this to happen soon.
