Jeremy Strong joins Aaron Sorkin's "Chicago 7 Trial" – Variety

The film is based on the infamous 1969 trial of seven men accused by the federal government of conspiracy and incitement to riot, a result of counter-culture demonstrations held in Chicago at the Democratic National Convention of 1968. The lawsuit pierced the nation and sparked a conversation aimed at undermining the United States government.

Strong is expected to play Jerry Rubin, an American social activist, anti-war leader and counter-culture icon who played a key role in organizing the event during the convention. His casting in the historical drama follows the news that the long-awaited film is finally advancing with Paramount Pictures on board for the domestic distribution and Cross Creek which is committed to fund and co-produce alongside Amblin Partners.

Strong joins a cast of stars including Eddie Redmayne, Baron Cohen, Frank Langella, Mark Rylance and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Sorkin will realize from his own script with Marc Platt.

The "Succession" event was hailed for his role in KBOALL HBO in the HBO series, which is the middle son of a powerful family of media moguls resembling Murdoch. The second season of the show is underway and has recently been renewed for a third. "Succession" also received an Emmy nomination for the best drama series of its first season.

On the side of the film, Strong was seen earlier this year in Matthew McConaughey's fantastic thriller "Serenity".
