NEW YORK (AP) – The novelist Dorothea Benton Frank, who died as "Sullivan's Island" in her homeland, has died. She was 67 years old.
Frank died Monday after a brief battle against leukemia, publisher William Morrow announced. Over the past 30 years, she has had homes in Montclair, New Jersey, and Sullivan's Island, South Carolina, in Charleston County.
"Sullivan's Island" is her first book, completed at the age of 40 and published in 1999. It is the story of a troubled woman confronted with her past and her the first of many "Low Country" stories, including "Isle of Palms" and "Shem Creek."
Her other novels included "On invitation only", "The last original bride" and "All single women". His novel "Queen Bee" was released in May.
