Officers from one of Florida's cities made their "first rescue after a hurricane" Monday after a resident called to ask for help for her 6-week-old puppy.
Police officers Martin Oritz and Michel Jean of Fort Pierce were on patrol when they received a call about a local woman who was unable to take care of her puppy while Hurricane Dorian threatened to touch the ground , police said in a message posted on Facebook.

Police said the dog, Brindle Pittie, 6 weeks old, was too young to be alone in a shelter until the cyclone passed.
Officer Jean "immediately liked" the puppy, FaceTimed, his wife and son, decided on the spot that he would bring him home.
The police said that in light of the circumstances – and with a little "nudge" from other agents -, Jean chose a name for the last member of his family, Dory, for Dorian .

On Sunday, a woman from the Bahamas made the headlines after hosting 97 stray dogs to protect them from the storm.
Dorian, who wreaked havoc in the Bahamas this weekend, was hit by a Category 3 hurricane on Wednesday night, causing massive evacuations in the Carolinas.
