Shares of Tinder's parent company fell nearly 5% after Facebook announced the US launch of a new dating platform.
Facebook Dating will be available to all US users aged 18 and older from Thursday, said the social networking giant at a media event in New York.
Shares of Tinder's owner, Match Group, fell 4.7 percent to $ 81.62 on Thursday morning, while shares in Facebook rose 2 percent to $ 190.78.
The new platform, announced last year by general manager Mark Zuckerberg, was already in beta in several Latin American countries.
The dating platform will be part of the main Facebook application, but users will need to create a separate dating profile from their main Facebook account.
Facebook Dating product manager Nathan Sharp said the app would be free for all users.
"If you're looking for love, we do not keep the best features behind a paycheck," Sharp said.
Sharp assured users that there would be no overlap between a person's behavior on Facebook and his or her main Facebook page, promising that "all your activity in Facebook Dating stays in Facebook Dating".
The company also said that Facebook Dating users would be able to incorporate their Instagram stories to their dating profiles by the end of the year.
