FreeBuds 3
These look like noise reduction AirPods. What is the trap?

No, they are not AirPods. At IFA, Europe's largest technology show, Huawei announced the creation of true wireless headsets that would certainly look like something that could come out of Cupertino. The company's new FreeBuds 3 share the same open cut and same "rod" design as the AirPods, and they also have something really missing from Apple's truly wireless headsets: active noise suppression.
AirPod enthusiasts have long been calling for noise-canceling AirPods, but it does not seem likely that Apple will manufacture them in the near future. AirPods are still not sweat-resistant (although you can say that Powerbeats Pro headsets fit that bill) and Apple has no history of noise suppression (although there is no doubt they could do it eventually). Doubts remain as to the form factor of the AirPods, and therefore Huawei's new FreeBuds 3, and how they lend themselves to active noise suppression; The open shape naturally lets in more ambient noise. That said, the Huawei FreeBuds 3 are here and we're really excited to see how their noise attenuation is superimposed, for example, on other noise-canceling headphones on the market, like the Sony WF-1000XM3.

It's fair to say that FreeBuds 3 are designed for Android users who like the AirPod's form factor. Or iPhone users who want to use noise-canceling AirPods (although we still do not know if the associated app is available on iOS). That said, the new headsets are also naturally different from the AirPods. They do not have the Apple H1 chip and therefore do not connect quickly to your iPhone in the same way as the AirPods; you will have to go through the old route via the Bluetooth settings to pair them.
Complementing the differences, the FreeBuds 3 is charging via USB-C, which is nice, and each headset promises a battery life of four hours, the charging case offers 15 hours of battery in total. In addition, these are the first headphones with Huawei's A1 chip, which is the world's first chipset to support Bluetooth 5.1. They should theoretically not have connectivity problems. Another thing that differs from AirPods, the FreeBuds 3 can be bought in white or black models.
The Huawei FreeBuds 3 are expected to be available in the coming months, but buying them in the US could be complicated. The tensions between Huawei and the United States are still strong and the resolution of the problem is uncertain. No price details have been published.
