The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has reportedly investigated whether Amazon controls too much of the retail market.

Bloomberg News reported Wednesday that at least three merchants selling products on the Amazon platform had been contacted by FTC investigators who would be looking to determine how much their business depends on the services they offer. ; Amazon.

Representatives from Amazon and the FTC refused a request for comment from The Hill. The survey follows a similar survey launched by regulators of the European Union in July.

Members of both parties in Washington have raised alarms about the growing dominance of technology companies in the retail and other markets in recent months.

treasury secretary Steven MnuchinSteven Terner MnuchinThe Hill's 12:30 Report: Bolton as National Security Advisor Trump fires his national security advisor Bolton Trump faces a difficult path leading to Fannie Mae and the redesign of Freddie Mac PLUS specifically called for an antitrust investigation by Amazon and other companies earlier this year.

"If you look at Amazon, even if it has some advantages, it has destroyed the retail sector across the US, so there is no doubt that competition is limited," Mnuchin said in July.

"There are areas where they hurt small businesses, so I do not think it's a one size fits all and I do not have any opinion aside, I think it's absolutely just that the Attorney General looks into these problems, "he added at the time.

A spokesperson for the Free & Fair Markets Initiative, a consumer-driven consumption monitoring organization of Amazon, applauded the probe's news in a statement posted on Twitter.

"It is encouraging that regulators are finally taking seriously their willingness to take advantage of the unfair advantage that Amazon has given to its platform," said Robert Engel, spokesman for the group.
